The Orca Swim Team, established in 1984 by a group of swimmers preparing for Gay Games II, is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the sport of swimming and to educating the public about the value of sports in community-building. We are an active association of gay/lesbian and gay/lesbian-friendly fitness and competitive swimmers with approximately 70 members. Workouts are available 4 times per week throughout the year at Seattle University.

All types of swimmers are welcome to participate. Some of our members are here to compete in the next big swim meet or triathlon while others swim with us for fitness and friendship.

In addition to working out together, our team generally hosts two swim meets per year, one in January and the other in July, inviting swimmers from all over the world. We also organize social potlucks, distribute a team newsletter quarterly, host both a summer and holiday party, and more. We coordinate the swimmers attending the Gay Games and the International Gay and Lesbian Aquatics Championships and have an active groups of swimmers that participate in local as well as out-of-town meets in places like Vancouver, Salt Lake City, Atlanta, San Francisco, San Diego, Washington DC, and even Paris.

The Orca Swim Team is a member of Pacific Northwest Aquatics (PNA), International Gay and Lesbian Aquatics (IGLA) and Team Seattle
