RULES

This exhibition is sanctioned by the ISI. It is a non-qualifying event that will be conducted under the rules set forth in the 2001 edition of the official USFSA Rulebook and this announcement.

Team Seattle, the Organizing Committee, the ISI and the ice arena being utilized for this exhibition accept no responsibility for injury or damage sustained by any participant in this exhibition (see CR 10.12).

ENTRIES

Entries for the Slide for Pride 2001 will close on March 3, 2001 and all TEST requirements must be met by that date. All AGE requirements must be met by March 30, 2000. One entry form may be used for all events entered. You may make copies of the entry form.

In accordance with CR 10.01, any entry not postmarked on or before the deadline date and in the prescribed manner will not be accepted and the skater will not be permitted to skate.

Since the eligibility of your entry is based on the post mark, please follow the procedure as listed below.

  1. A postage meter will not be considered acceptable proof of mailing date.
  2. Please mail this entry from a post office desk - and have it hand canceled. Do not put it in a mail box. Confirm that the mark is correct. You are responsible for the post mark. Late entries will not be accepted.
  3. Please include a stamped, self-addressed envelope if you wish to receive a copy of the official practice and exhibition schedule.
  4. Entry fees are non-refundable.

ENTRY FEES

The entry fees for the exhibition are as follows:

Persons using checks without sufficient funds will be charged an additional $25.00 US fee per check and all further payments must be made by money order. Skaters will not be allowed to practice or skate in the exhibition until all such debts are satisfied. Make all checks payable to TEAM SEATTLE.

AGE CATEGORIES

All age categories may be divided depending on the number of registrations. Proof of age is required for all events. Copy of birth certificate, passport, state driver’s license or similar proof of age is acceptable.

FREE SKATING EVENTS

According to the new adult free skating test structure the following skating levels are in effect.

In order to skate at the bronze level at the Slide for Pride 2001 you must pass the Adult Bronze Free Skating Test. In order to skate at the silver level you must pass the Adult Silver Free Skating Test. In order to skate at the gold level, you must pass the Adult Gold Free Skating Test. If you have passed the Standard Intermediate Test you have the option of skating in the masters event or in the adult gold event. But you may only skate in the adult gold event if you pass the Adult Pre-Bronze, Bronze, Silver and Gold Free Skating Tests.

Masters Senior Free Skating: Must have passed the Standard Junior Free Skating Test or prior to 10/1/77, at least the 6th Figure Test. Music not to exceed 3:40.

Masters Junior Free Skating: Must have passed the Standard Novice Free Skating Test and no higher than the 7th Figure Test and/or the Standard Junior Free Skating Test, or prior to 10/1/77, at least the 4th Figure Test. Music not to exceed 3:10.

Masters Novice Free Skating: Must have passed the Standard Intermediate Free Skating Test and no higher than the 6th Figure Test and/or the Standard Novice Free Skating Test, or prior to 10/1/77, at least the 3rd Figure Test. Music not to exceed 2:40.

Adult Gold Free Skating: Must have passed at least the Adult Gold Free Skating Test and no higher than the standard Intermediate Free Skating Test or prior to 10/1/77, the 3rd Figure Test. Music not to exceed 2:40.

Adult Silver Free Skating: Must have passed at least the Adult Silver Free Skating Test and no higher than the Juvenile Free Skating Test, the 2nd Figure Test prior to 10/1/77, the 2nd Figure Test. No double jumps will be permitted. Music not to exceed 2:10.

Adult Bronze Free Skating: Must have passed at least the Adult Bronze Free Skating Test, the USFSA Preliminary Free Skating Test, the Preliminary Figure Test prior to 10/1/77, the Preliminary Figure Test. No Axle and no double jumps are permitted. Music not to exceed 1:40.

DANCE EVENTS

Adult Gold Dance: One partner must have passed at least one Gold/Adult Gold dance; the other partner must have passed at least one Pre-Gold/Adult Pre-Gold dance.

Starlight Waltz-2 sequences
Quick Step-4 sequences

Final Round

OSPD Blues tempo with vocal music allowed Each couple shall inform the referee before the start of the dance whether the dance consists of 1/2 circuit of the ice surface or a complete circuit.

Adult Pre-Gold Dance: One partner must have passed at least one Pre-Gold/Adult Pre-Gold dance; the other partner must have passed at least one Silver/Adult Silver dance. Neither partner may have passed more than one Gold/Adult Gold dance.

Initial Round

American Waltz-2 sequences
Paso Double-3 sequences

Final Round

Willow Waltz – 3 sequences
Fourteen step – 6 sequences

Final Round

Hickery Hoedown – 3 sequences
Fiesta Tango – 3 sequences

Adult Pre-Bronze Dance: Both partners must have completed the Pre-Bronze Dance Test, but no higher than the Bronze Dance Test.

Initial Round

Canasta Tango – 3 sequences
Swing Dance – 2 sequences

Final Round

Rhythm Blues – 3 sequences
Dutch Waltz – 3 sequences

PAIR EVENTS

Adult and Masters Pair events consist of Free Skating only.

Masters Pair Event: One partner in the Masters Pair event must have passed at least the Juvenile Free Skating Test or the Adult Gold Free Skating Test or the Intermediate Pair Test. The other partner must have passed at least the Adult Silver Free Skating Test, the Pre-Juvenile Free Skating Test or the Juvenile Pair Test. Music not to exceed 2:40.

Adult Pair Event: Both partners in the Adult Pair event must have passed the Adult Silver Free Skating Test or the Juvenile Pair Test and may have passed no higher than the Pre-Juvenile Free Skating Test, the complete Adult Silver or Silver Dance Test or the Juvenile Pair Test. Music not to exceed 2:10.

INTERPRETIVE SKATING EVENT

Adult and Masters Interpretive Free Skating Events shall consist of a variety of skating moves and elements selected for their value in enhancing the skater’s interpretation of the music. Axles and double jumps will not be permitted. Costumes which enhance the performance by appropriately reflecting the character of the music and theme will be considered in the judging. Props on the ice will not be permitted.

In Interpretive events, skaters will be judged on their ability to interpret the music and develop a theme by using their skating skills as above. One mark will be used by the judges in their critique of the skater’s exhibition.

In critiquing the skating techniques of the program, these aspects must be considered:

  1. The ease, flow, glide, sureness, power and depth of the edges;
  2. Ability to vary the speed and direction of the skating;
  3. Variety of expressive and innovative moves;
  4. The succession of movement within the program;
  5. Utilization of space and ice coverage;
  6. Style.
In critiquing the presentation of the program, the following aspects must be considered:
  1. Interpretation of the music and rhythm;
  2. Musical timing and understanding of the phrasing of the music;
  3. Use of the entire body to develop the artistic and music expression;
  4. Creativity;
  5. Choreography – art of arranging movements;
  6. Variation in tempo, tension, emotion, movements;
  7. Suitability of music to the skater;
  8. Internal motivation of movements and expression projected to the audience.

In all Interpretive Events the length of the music is not to exceed 1:40 minutes. Vocal music is permitted. Age categories will be the same as for the Free Skating events.

Masters Interpretive Free Skating: Must meet the minimum requirements for the Adult Gold Free Skating event, any Masters Free Skating or Pair event, or have passed at least one Adult Silver or Standard Silver Dance Test. Music not to exceed 1:40.

Adult Interpretive Free Skating: Must meet the minimum requirements for the Adult Bronze Free Skating event or the Adult Silver Free Skating event, or have passed no higher than the complete Adult Pre-Silver or Standard Pre-Silver Dance Test. Music not to exceed 1:40.

MUSIC

ONLY cassette tapes will be used at the exhibition. Skaters should bring at least two (2) high quality tapes per program to be performed. The tapes must be turned in at the time of registration for the exhibition. Each tape must be labeled with the skater’s name, the specific event and the exact running time of the tape and program. Tapes not so labeled will not be accepted. All tapes must be picked up at the completion of each event. Tapes not picked up the end of the event shall be discarded. None will be returned by mail. During the exhibition and official practice ice sessions, music will be played at a maximum of 90 dB level. There will be no exceptions.

All practice ice requests should be mailed directly to the Team Seattle 2001 Slide for Pride Organizing Committee.

ICE ARENA

All events will be held at the Kingsgate Ice Arena, 14326 124th Avenue NE, Kirkland, Washington 98034. The Kingsgate Ice Arena is an indoor, one surface arena. The rink measures 195 X 85 feet and is slightly rounded at the corners; this will be used for all exhibition ice and official practice ice. The ice arena is located in a small shopping center with a coffee shop, sandwich shop, Baskin & Robins, Safeway, McDonalds and a drugstore.

CREDENTIALS

At the time of registration, one credential will be given at no charge to the following persons. These are non-transferable and non-replaceable.

OFFICIAL PRACTICE ICE

Official practice ice will be available at the Kingsgate Ice Arena, Saturday morning, April 7, for all skaters. Free practice ice will be provided during the exhibition as the schedule allows.

Practice ice sessions will be approximately 30 minutes long, based on entry demands.

Practice ice is free and is included in the entry fee.

PRACTICE ICE MUST BE RESERVED IN ADVANCE

MUSIC: Exhibition tapes must be turned in at the time of registration. The music coordinator will play and time exhibition tapes during the practice sessions. All skaters will have their music played through at least once, i.e. (1) Free Skating Program, (1) Interpretive Program. We cannot guarantee that every skater will have their music played at each practice session skated.

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

An official bulletin board will be located in the lobby of the Kingsgate Ice Arena by the locker rooms. All official communications will be posted prior to the first official practice session on Saturday April 7th, including The Official Schedule of Events, Official Practice Ice Schedule and Exhibition changes.

ATTENTION: SKATERS AND COACHES

The following policies will be applicable for the Slide for Pride 2001:

  1. No music played for either practice or exhibition may exceed the 90 dB level.
  2. Once an event has begun (the first warm-up has taken the ice) no skater in that event, regardless of their warm-up group, may skate for any length of time on the official rink until the event has been completed. This does not include the skater’s official warm-up group or the time immediately preceding the calling of their name by the announcer. The policy will be strictly enforced, and violators subject to sanctions.
  3. If there are six (6) or more entries entered INTO AN EVENT as of the close of the March 3, 2001 entry deadline, the Event will be divided in half by blind draw. This will make two (2) divisions to the same event.
